I'm Afraid to Cook!

"I have to admit, I'm a bit afraid of cooking!"

This was a comment made by Julia, a recent client.

Her diet was causing all sorts of problems for her.  We determined that her biggest obstacle to change was eating out! Her diet consisted of take-out or restaurant foods that were high in unhealthy fats, salt, and sugar.  She wasn't getting enough fiber.  She knew she had to change the way she ate but didn't know why she was so resistant. Finally, she had an "aha" moment.

She came to the realization that she was afraid to cook!

She had never been "taught" to cook and she didn't feel comfortable in the kitchen. She was afraid she'd "make a mistake and ruin the meal." I convinced her that all she needed was a little guidance (like cooking training wheels!) As part of the learning process, she agreed to join one of my cooking programs.  She quickly realized she COULD do this and, slowly but surely, learned how to budget her time and look for recipes that she liked.  Julia now feels comfortable in the kitchen and even admits she looks forward to trying a new dish.

Cooking isn't perfect, nor does it need to be hard.

That is the major message I tell my clients. It can actually be fun! I explain (and they sometimes witness) that I "mess up" all the time, and guess what? I still have a finished dish at the end that tastes great and is feeding me healthy!

Every meal that I make at home is helping me fight off the damaging effects of inflammation, and, in a sense, helping me age better!

That is the goal of my cooking programs. My clients have fun in the kitchen while learning new ways to prepare foods. Along the way, I add in tips on how I like to prep things or about the health benefits of the ingredients we are using.

Would you like to feel more confident in the kitchen? Make cooking fun, not a chore? Let me help.
