Happy Valentine’s Day! During this month of love, I wish all of you the joy of love, friendship, and purpose in your life. And while typically, Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to express your love to others, it is also a good time to show yourself a little love, pampering, and compassion.
Here are 14 ways to show yourself a little love this Valentine’s Day.
14 Speak kindly to yourself for the day.
Focus on your positive qualities; don’t dwell on the negative. As soon as an obnoxious thought pops into your head, interrupt it and turn it into kind and loving words. You say kind, heartfelt and loving words to your partner. Today, do the same for yourself.
13 Take a moment to really listen to yourself.
A lover listens attentively and wants to learn more. Do the same for yourself. Listen to what your body is telling you. Is it craving movement? Go for a walk or go to the gym. Take a yoga class or do an in-home workout. Is it hungry? Choose a healthy option for a meal or a snack.
12 Take a (decadent) power nap or go to bed early.
What better way to love yourself than to feel rested and reenergized.
11 If you feel in need of help, reach out to a trusted friend or family member.
We are social beings. We love feeling connected with others and often feel discomfort when we feel isolated. By reaching out, it also gives others the opportunity to feel good by helping you.
10 Instead of beating yourself up, try laughing at yourself
Give yourself a “pass” when you make a mistake. We are all human, and that comes with flaws. We are often more willing to forgive the faults of others than those of ourselves. Realizing we are not perfect is a liberating feeling. Reaching out to others (see #4) gives us yet another chance to connect and feel gratitude.
9 Watch your favorite movie or TV show; by yourself or with a friend.
Get comfortable and settle in to watch your favorite chick-flick or action film, alone. You get total control over the remote too!
8 Buy yourself some flowers.
If not today, than on some random day. They are nature’s way of making us smile. Find the prettiest bunch at the grocery store, put them in an eye-catching vase, and display them where you can enjoy them (and smile) all week.
7 Get dressed up for no reason at all.
It will make you feel pretty and confident.
6 Get a massage or a facial.
Besides the physical benefits, these help to detoxify and relax the body.
5 Get a manicure and pedicure.
These two things are sure to make you feel pampered and pretty. Everyone deserves to splurge on themself every now and then, you’re worth it!
4 Get a hair blowout for no reason at all.
You don't need an event to look and feel goo. The perfect hairdo looks smashing even if all you’re doing is shopping for groceries!
3 Throw a “me” party for yourself at home.
Make a refreshing drink, turn up your favorite song, and dance around the house.
2 Call a friend to catch up.
Just another opportunity to connect with others and laugh about old times.
1 And last but not least, indulge in a piece of rich dark chocolate.
Plurge on the really good kind with minimal high-quality ingredients. With no regrets. After all, dark chocolate (70% or more) does have healthy antioxidants!
Have a very Happy Valentine's Day!
Wishing you love, health, and friendship,
Evey
