The family "curse"...

A short while ago, I was having a conversation with Sarah.  She was telling me how frustrating it was to be in a family that is "cursed."

“Wait, what?”  I said, “you have a family curse?”

She laughed, she explained that was the term they jokingly used to talk about arthritis.  It seemed EVERYONE in her family suffered from some sort of joint pain whether in their hands, feet, back, etc.  She laughed, but I could tell she was only half joking and truly believed that achy joints were an inevitable part of future.

So, I suggested to her instead of viewing it as a “curse,” she try to recognize it as an opportunity to rewrite the script for future generations.

Now it was her turn to be confused. She was shocked when I told her that she had control over how her arthritis progressed or didn’t.

This is a common misconception that many clients have, leading them to accept their joint discomfort without realizing they CAN do something about it.

The reason we know this is true is because we now have a better understanding of our body's incredible ability to adapt through a fascinating concept called epigenetics. Now, I know that may sound like a complex term, but let me break it down in everyday language.

Epigenetics is like the conductor of an orchestra. It doesn't change the instruments (your genes), but it influences how they play together. We want to make sure we have good conductors of our genes!

These conductors have the power to influence whether our "arthritis" genes are switched on or off.

And just who are these conductors in this orchestra of genes? They are the everyday lifestyle choices we make and the environmental factors that surround us. You have the power to influence how your genes express themselves.

It's like having a say in the melody of your health!

So, when someone tells you that joint issues are unavoidable because they “run in the family," that’s only part of the story. Epigenetics tells us that you can orchestrate a different tune for your health and well-being controlling how joint pain chooses to express itself.

It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Your choices, from what you eat to how active you are, can impact your genetic symphony. Small changes, like incorporating joint-friendly exercises or choosing anti-inflammatory foods, can play a significant role.

The moral of this story: Don't let outdated beliefs limit your potential for a vibrant, pain-free life. Your genes may set the stage, but you're the conductor of your health orchestra!

See you there!

Yours in Health,

Evey
